Essex County College is offering a new program for students interested in pursuing a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) disciplines. The program is recognized nationally for its success in helping students, particularly disadvantaged minorities, to graduate in STEM fields and continuing into rewarding careers. The components of the program include a Summer Bridge experience for incoming students to acculturate to college life; tutoring, advising, and mentoring that will continue throughout the academic year; and the opportunity to conduct research with STEM faculty and graduate students. LSAMP students will earn stipends for Peer-Led Team Learning through tutoring other LSAMP students and high school students enrolled in pre-college programs on Alliance campuses. After transferring the ECC LSAMP students will be automatically accepted as LSAMP members in the collaborating four year institutions.
The GS-LSAMP alliance includes Rutgers, Essex County College, Montclair State University, Kean University, William Paterson University, New Jersey City University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Bloomfield College.
